At a year-end employee recognition ceremony, OHM Advisors recently announced Arthur Schmidt as its 2023 Employee of the Year. Nominated by firm peers and decided by vote, this prestigious annual award goes to one winner from a pool of highly qualified, mission-driven candidates who have made tremendous contributions to OHM Advisors and their respective professions.

Schmidt is a principal for the OHM Advisors Planning Group. He has been with the firm since 2017, serving as planner, project manager, and now principal, and is an integral member of the Cleveland office team. Passionate about the built environment and citizen engagement, Schmidt is known for his work on projects that bring people together to share ideas about the future of their communities, such as Cleveland's Vision for the Valley and the Cleveland Mobility Plan, as well as for his industry involvement through organizations such as the Ohio Chapter of the American Planning Association.

Described by his coworkers as an all-around fun-loving individual with infectious positivity, Schmidt is known to inspire and go above and beyond for the people around him.

Planner and OHM Advisors Principal Aaron Domini said, “We joke that he whistles while he works, but the truth is his excitement and attitude are infectious. It’s one reason he’s been so successful guiding younger professionals, building trust with our clients and partners, and fostering the firm’s growth over these last few years.”

In his own words, Schmidt defines success as “making a lasting, positive impact on people and spaces,” and cites collaboration as the cornerstone of the planning process.  Raised in Northeast Ohio, he holds two master’s degrees, in urban design from Kent State University and in planning from Cleveland State University. He is an active member of the Ohio Chapter of the American Planning Association and served as the Cleveland Section President for an elected two-year term beginning January 2021, during which time he also served on the APA Ohio Board of Trustees. He has also chaired and co-chaired several Cleveland section committees.

Schmidt’s interests include spending time with his three-old son and wife, watching Formula 1 racing, and following his beloved Juventus FC and Ohio State Buckeyes.

As the 2023 OHM Advisors Employee of the Year, Schmidt receives a monetary bonus, 40 additional hours of paid time off, an engraved award, and a special place in firm history as a highly valued employee. Congratulations are also extended to 2023 Employee of the Year Finalist, Nathan Zgnilec, PE, project manager from the OHM Advisors Environment and Water Resources engineering team. Nathan stood out from a group of exceptionally talented candidates for his dedication and professionalism.
